Next Generation
The annual Next Generation program is also presented at our Festivals of German Films. The program is also available for screening at international film festivals on English subtitled 35 mm prints, BetaSP and DigiBeta.

Conditions of participation:
* Films of all genres may be submitted (features, documentaries, animation, experimental, etc.)
* Submitted films have to be directed by officially registered students of a German film school or of the film department of a German Art Academy or University of Applied Sciences.
* Running time of submitted films may not exceed 15 minutes.
* Only films available on 35 mm can be selected.
* Completion date of submitted films must be between 1 February of the previous year and 1 February of the current year (when in doubt, decisive is the date of the first official screening).
* Films may only be submitted upon invitation by >> German Film Schools. Film departments of German Art Academies and Universities of Applied Sciences will also be invited to submit films if one of their productions was selected for one of the past three Next Generation programs.
* Film departments of German Art Academies and Universities of Applied Sciences that are not invited, may submit films that have been screened in National or International Competition at one of the following German festivals: Berlinale, Filmfest Dresden, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Kurzfilmfestival Hamburg, Kurzfilmbiennale Ludwigsburg, Filmfestival Muenster, Exground Wiesbaden, Interfilm Berlin, Short Cuts Cologne, Regensburger Kurzfilmwoche, Max Ophuels Preis Saarbruecken, as well as films in the program of the Hofer Filmtage.
