OSCAR® NOMINATION FOR THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE

The German entry THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE (if...productions) by İlker Çatak made it to the final round and has earned an Oscar® nomination in the category of Best International Feature Film. PEFECT DAYS by German director Wim Wenders was also nominated in this category. Congratulations also to German actor Sandra Hüller, who received a nomination in the Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role category for ANATOMY OF A FALL.

FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS - THE FILMMAKERS 2024

In 2024, the FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS international talent campaign enters its ninth year. Seven unique, impressive, and diverse personalities are the ambassadors of this year's edition and will be presented to the international press at the International Film Festival in Berlin in February.

GERMAN FILMS AT SUNDANCE

From January 18 to 28, 2024, the Sundance Film Festival took place in Park City and Salt Lake City. With ETERNAL YOU by Hans Block and Moritz Riesewieck,  BAIGAL NUUR - LAKE BAIGAL by Alisi Telengut and THE OUTRUN by Nora Fingscheidt, two German productions and one German co-production were screened at the North American festival.

Five German Productions celebrated their world premiere in various section at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. German Films also invited to a reception to give the filmmakers and industry experts the opportunity to network and exchange ideas.

GERMAN SHORT FILMS 2024 – ONLINE CATALOGUE UPDATE

There is an update for the new shorts catalogue: The members of the AG Kurzfilm – German Short Film Association and a jury selected a broad spectrum of short films. More than 1,000 short films produced since 2004 are now available for viewing.

70 YEARS OF GERMAN FILMS - A RETROSPECTIVE IN FILMS

In 2024, German Films celebrates its 70th anniversary. As part of this anniversary, we will be reviewing impressive and outstanding German films throughout the year in our monthly newsletter - curated and evaluated by Oliver Baumgarten.
The movie in January is from 1956 - THE CAPTAIN FROM KOEPENICK by Helmut Käutner.

During the Berlinale German Films will be at the EFM - European Film Market from February 15 to 21, 2024. Come find us at Booth #18 in the Gropiusbau!

European Short Pitch 2023/2024
The European Short Film Pitch has been supporting the development of short film projects, young talents and European co-productions since 2007. Twelve projects in development and four works-in-progress were selected for the 17th edition in 2023/2024. The works-in-progress include the upcoming short DUTY FREE by German director Hilke Rönnfeldt, produced by Heimathafen Film. All the projects will be presented to the international industry at the hybrid Coproduction Forum in collaboration with the Travelling Film Festival in Rennes (France).

German Student Short Nominated at the Annie Awards 2024
The Annie Awards, organized by the International Animated Film Society ASIFA-Hollywood since 1972, honor the best international achievements in the field of animation every year. For the 51st edition, the short COLLAGE by G. Besen Dilek, a graduation film from the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg that is also included in German Films’ current Next Generation Short Tiger program, received a nomination in the category “Best Student Film”. The winners will be announced at an award ceremony in Los Angeles on February 17, 2024. 

Applications for VDR industry days at the Visions du Réel International Film Festival Nyon
In 2024 German Films is once again cooperating with the Visions du Réel International Film Festival in Nyon and is offering committed producers of documentary and/or hybrid-experimental films the opportunity to apply. The 55th edition of the festival will take place from April 12 to 21, 2024. All information about the application process can be found here.
