Since 1995, each year a select line-up of German films is flickering across the screens in France’s capital Paris.
A French “comité” is selecting a program for this 5-day festival during which a variety of German feature films, documentaries, mid-lengths and some shorts (Next Generation Short Tiger Program) is shown to an inquisitive audience each year in October. The Goethe-Institut Paris as a partner is selecting up to four films, presenting a retrospective, an homage, a focus or a special guest. The festival includes masterclasses and workshops.

In 2023, the event opened with THE TEACHERS' LOUNGE  by İlker Çatak. In cooperation with the French distributor TANDEM, the leading actress Leonie Benesch will presented this impressive film at the Cinema L'Arlequin in the Parisian artist quarter of Montparnasse at the 28th Festival of German Films. Other guests were filmmaker Bettina Böhler who gave a masterclass as well as director Milena Aboyan who presented her film ELAHA and producer Fabian Gasmia who accompanied the film SUN AND CONCRETE.

The Festival of German Film in Paris is organized in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Paris and supported by ARTE, the DFJW/OFAJ and the German Embassy in Paris.

Place: Cinema Quattro Fontane

The Festival del Cinema Tedesco is a new start for the Italian region and is organized in a cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Rome and the German Embassy since 2021. In 2023 the third edition of the Festival del Cinema Tedesco was held in the new Cinema Quattro Fontane in the center of Rome. The Italian film fans were able to see and enjoy new German films chosen by an Italian Jury.

The opening film  WHAT YOU CAN SEE FROM HERE  with its director Aron Lehmann and actress Rosalie Thomass in cooperation with the Italian distributor BIM Distribuzione started the festival. In addition, Lina Marie Drevs presented her short film SIS. BEST SISTER and the NEXT GENERATION SHORT FILM program followed by a film talk moderated by Mauro Donzelli.

On the last evening, Leander Haußmann and his feature film STASIKOMÖDIE provided a cheerful conclusion to the festival.

From October 21 to November 7 2022, the Goethe-Institut Barcelona and the Filmoteca de Catalunya, with the support of German Films, present the 10th German Film Weeks Barcelona. As in the successful editions of the last years, they offer a selection of the most interesting and innovative films of the current cinema panorama. The focus is on auteur and independent films. All ten works will be projected in the original with Spanish subtitles.
