OSCAR® NOMINATION FOR THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG

The feature film THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG by Mohammad Rasoulof has been nominated for an Oscar® in the Best International Feature Film category. There were also some pleasing nominations for German filmmakers like authors Moritz Binder, Tim Fehlbaum and co-writer Alex David in the Writing (Original Screenplay) category for SEPTEMBER 5, for composer Volker Bertelmann for Music (Original Score) and designer Lisy Christl for Costume Desigen, both for CONCLAVE, and for German VFX expert Gerd Nefzer in the Visual Effects category for DUNE: PART TWO.

ACADEMY AWARDS® FOR SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENTS

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the winners of its Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards. The German Curt Schaller will receive an Oscar® for a camera system he developed.

FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS - THE FILMMAKERS 2025

10 years – 10 editions of FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS. This year marks a special anniversary of the German Films talent campaign. And again, seven unique, impressive, and diverse personalities are the ambassadors of this edition and will be presented to the international press at the International Film Festival in Berlin in February.

GERMAN SHORT FILMS 2025 – ONLINE CATALOGUE UPDATE

There is an update on the new shorts catalogue: The members of the AG Kurzfilm – German Short Film Association and a jury have selected a broad spectrum of short films. More than 1,100 short films produced since 2004 are now available for viewing.

DEEP DIVE GENRE - A GERMAN FILMS PODCAST: SEASON 6 - COMEDY

For the second episode, we talked to writer-director Alireza Golafshan about the uniqueness and magic of a good comedy script. German Films Booth at EFM
During the Berlinale, German Films will be at the EFM - European Film Market from February 13-19, 2025. Come find us at Booth #18 in the Gropiusbau!

Nominations for the German Film Critics' Award 
Mohammad Rasoulof's THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG leads the list of nominees with five nominations. Thomas Arslan's SCORCHED EARTH, Ayşe Polat's IN THE BLIND SPOT and Matthias Glasner's DYING have each received four nominations. The 2024 awards will be presented during Berlinale in the presence of many of the nominees. The award ceremony will again take place on Sunday, February 16 at the Berlin Academy of Arts on Pariser Platz. The association is supported by the agency Barbarella Entertainment.

German producer Sandra Müller at Rotterdam Lab
Celebrating its 25th edition in 2025, Rotterdam Lab will be welcoming 71 outstanding emerging producers nominated by its worldwide partners together with a number from its own open call. This five-day ride of panel sessions, roundtables, and networking events provides a golden opportunity for participants to refine their (co)producing craft and expand their international network. The German producer Sandra Müller will participate via German Films. 

BIF Market: Collaboration BIFFF – German Films
Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and German Films will be collaborating on the ninth edition of the BIF Market. The BIF Market will take place from April 14-18, 2025. The 9th edition will continue as a hybrid edition (onsite and online). It features a variety of activities, such as Pitchbox Sessions, Work In Progress, Info Sessions on Belgian or International funding mechanisms, panels and masterclasses. On site attendees can also take part in visits to interesting locations in the region. The call for proposals for work in progress is now open. More information here. Deadline is February 28, 2025.

Call for submissions to Brussels CoProMarket
BRIFF - Brussels International Film Festival is organizing its 9th Brussels CoProMarket, which will take place from June 23-24, 2025. The market has been promoting partnerships between European and Belgian producers since 2016. It is divided into two distinct sections embracing different objectives: the Gap Financing Sessions and UP: Up-and-coming Producers, which will showcase a total of 15 exciting feature projects in development. All information can be found here. Deadline is March 17, 2025.
