Maite Woköck is the German participant for PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE 2021
The 22nd edition of European Film Promotion's (EFP) established networking programme PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE, which will be held within the framework of the Festival de Cannes, has selected 20 up-and-coming young producers from all over Europe as this year's participants. Maite Woköck (Telescope Animation), who was nominated by the EFP member German Films, will be representing Germany. This makes her the first producer from the animation sector to be selected since the programme's inception.
Maite Woköck is the managing director and producer of Telescope Animation & Telescope Animation Studios and also works as a freelance producer on projects such as PETRONELLA APPLEWITCH – THE SERIES for Akkord Film commissioned by ZDF. A feature film of the same name is already in the planning stage. She produced OOOPS! NOAH IS GONE... for Ulysses Film and worked on RICHARD THE STORK, both of them successful animated films screening at numerous festivals. The former was awarded the Golden Sparrow, while RICHARD THE STORK received the Bavarian Film Award. She is currently in production at her Hamburg-based company Ella Filmproduktion on the 3D-animated film MY FAIRY TROUBLEMAKER AND ME, for which Woköck also provided the initial idea. In addition, she is working on THE LAST WHALE SINGER: a 360° project consisting of an animated film (in financing), an animated series and a video game (both in preparation) to be released over the next few years.
Maite Woköck on her nomination: "I am incredibly happy to be able to be in Cannes this year as a PRODUCER ON THE MOVE for Germany, at least digitally. It is both a great honour and opportunity to be participating in this programme as the first animated film producer and thus paying attention to wonderful and successful European animation. I know how valuable and enriching an international network can be and how important these connections are for being able to realise my projects in the first place. I am curious to see how other producers are dealing with the realities of the rapidly changing market and expect to gather lots of inspiration. I think that the way we develop projects simultaneously for several media at Telescope Animation could also be inspiring for other participants."
The PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE platform offers the participants a tailor-made programme to support the exchange of ideas and experiences between European producers and provide them with the opportunity to develop new networks and thus facilitate international co-productions.
This year's programme will initially be held online from 17 – 21 May due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the option of a physical continuation in Cannes in July. The 20 selected producers will present their projects in roundtable pitching sessions and one-to-one speed dating-style meetings. The digital programme will be rounded off by a case study and talks with experts.
PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE is supported by the Creative Europe - MEDIA Programme of the European Union, as well as the EFP member organisations, including German Films.
